Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement

road to freedom - the bronx museumMany who has read the "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave," feel that the narrative of oppression goes right to the heart of humankind.  The fight for recpect and justice for disadvantaged groups continues and will be remembered through writing and images. From the end of March to the beginning of August photographs from the Civil Rights Movement will be shown at The Bronx Museum of the Arts.

The exhibit "Road to Freedom" at The Bronx Museum of the Arts chronicles the American Civil Rights Movement.  Road to Freedom presents 150 vintage photographs that refer to events and a social movement aimed at abolishing acts of racial discrimination between 1954 to 1968.

According to The Bronx Museum of the Arts: "Road to Freedom is the most comprehensive collection of photographic prints and related artifacts ever devoted to the subject and was organized by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination."

The exhibit will show photographs by almost fifty photographers.  Featured images will be work by Bob Adelman, James Karales, Morton Broffman, Bruce Davidson and Danny Lyon.
